Why Love practically?

prac·ti·cal
ˈpraktək(ə)l/
adjective
  1. 1.
of or concerned with the actual doing or use of something rather than with theory and ideas.

I sent out a preliminary survey to some friends and family while developing the vision for Practical Love in Practice. Out of the 50 who participated, I was especially intrigued by the responses to the statement "I have felt forgotten and/or alone during a major life event or crises." I was saddened to learn that 62% felt this statement to be at least somewhat true; with another 8% unsure about whether they had been. That means only 30%, or 15 people, had not felt alone or forgotten when life had been challenging.

However, when asked about the importance in priorities of supporting and encouraging loved ones, an overwhelming majority (94%) stated that this was something that was important to them.

The vision of this blog and workshops is to help bridge the gap between our desires to be there for our friends and family who are struggling and the limitations we face in the realities of our own sometimes overwhelming circumstances.

In my own experience, before kids came along for my husband and I it was a lot easier to use our time for making and delivering home cooked meals, or devoting an entire Saturday to helping a friend move into a new house. Mama-dependent babies, active toddlers, scheduled school age children, careers, and every-day stresses of adulthood change the way our time is divvied up. It may seem impossible to support our loved ones in the ways we did before these things came to fruition. Heck, getting a real, home-cooked meal on my own table a few times a week can be a challenge! Many times moms with younger kiddos find themselves tied down to home during naptime - the one time of day it's easiest to have the freedom to focus on others.

Whether that paragraph speaks to your soul, or whether you find yourself with the resources of time and just need some fresh ideas about specific ways you can use it to bless others, I hope that this blog gives you great inspiration!
